School Meals

There are many things to think about on your child’s behalf, and what they are going to eat when they’re at school can be one of them. As with all schools your child(ren) can choose between a packed lunch provided from home or a school meal/packed lunch provided by the Wrexham Council Schools Catering team.

It is important that children are eating a healthy balanced diet as this helps improve their concentration levels, while providing essential nutrients to help with all of their growing bodies needs.

The Wrexham catering team continually work hard to provide your child(ren) a variety of tasty and nutritious meals. Each year the new menu is rigorously checked to ensure that the food served in all WCBC schools meets strict food and nutrition legislation set by the Welsh Government.

The school meals catering service in primary schools offers a free two course menu, with a daily choice of two main course meals, or filled jacket potatoes and salad or a packed lunch, plus a freshly prepared pudding or fresh fruit.

The free meals are partly funded by the Welsh Government Universal Primary Free School Meal (UPFSM) scheme.

A vegetarian option is available daily in primary schools and high schools.

Packed Lunches

If you are providing your child with a packed lunch, please be mindful that we are a “healthy school” so here are some tips on making their packed lunches healthier:-

Free School Meals

All primary pupils in Reception – Yr 6 are entitled to Universal Primary Free School Meals.

For your child to get their free school meals you will need to book using the ParentPay website. Please ask in school about registering for ParentPay.

If you are on a low income or benefits it is still important for you to apply for free school meals (at the start of this page) for your children. This is because if you are eligible for free school meals it could mean:

  • further financial help is available to you (including the School Essentials Grant, music lessons and school trips)
  • increased funding for your child’s school

For more information please see our School Essentials Grant page. Alternatively you can contact us at school for assistance, or contact Wrexham Support Services on 01978 297413.
